Public Engagement & Affordable Housing Development

Summer 2022

Part of Rundell Ernstberger Associates Internship

I was running through my neighborhood when I noticed signs that said “No Espero” - or “No Hope” - in almost every front yard. Curious, I looked up what those signs could be protesting. Blocks north of my childhood home, a proposal for a permanent supportive housing development was rejected by the HOA. As a strong supporter of affordable housing and permanent supportive housing, I became eager to know how, or even if, what could have changed in the development or engagement process such that the project could have been approved.
