Floyd’s Fork, KY Rural Preservation

Fall 2021

Part of McBride Dale Clarion Internship

Jefferson County is a rapidly urbanizing county south of Louisville, KY. The Floyd’s Fork watershed is home to most of the county’s remaining rural land as well as The Parklands. After reviewing relevant plans and analyzing current policies, I observed that the current planning tools are not sufficient to achieve the sustainability goals for Floyd’s Fork.

I co-authored a report with Greg Dale, FAICP outlining the lack of cohesion between the goals and implementation strategies, then generated a list of recommendations to aid in the county’s conservation efforts.

  • Professional report writing for planners & citizens

  • Policy research & analysis

  • Investigating county-wide economic conditions & development pressure

  • Analysis of multiple plans’ suggestions & discussion of contradictory visions

  • Development of planning recommendations to preserve valuable natural resources and rural character of the Floyds Fork region
